Why bother with an art degree and messy paints, when a free app can change ordinary photos into really, really cool images?*
Prisma (note: not a paid endorsement) uses neural networks to render photographs in the style of a range of artworks. The results can be transformative.
I am embarrassed to admit how much I love this cartoonish selfie, taken beside my ambulance while sporting a crew member's borrowed sunglasses.
The downside is Prisma is that a few filters produce such reliably dramatic results that it becomes a little repetitive. After you apply the same process to the fifth or sixth photo, it doesn't feel quite so revelatory or creative.
I've embraced a new challenge: take photos that will look good when using the less-interesting filters.
